ƒ(𝒏) Architects were commissioned to undertake an extension and refurbishment to a detached Victorian house within the Rushford Park conservation area in South Manchester. In contrast to the beautiful surroundings, the external condition of the house was poor. A comprehensive set of improvements will restore the house including a deep retrofit to achieve the Passive House EnerPHit standard. Renovation works were sensitively designed using brick-finish EWI to the external elevations, new windows, basement and roof insulation and an MVHR system and careful consideration of airtightness throughout.
Internal spaces are carefully considered to provide modern accessible accommodation while working with the complexities inherent to building that is more than 120 years old. At the rear, a brick outrigger restores the original roofline of the building and provides a family kitchen and dining room and a master bedroom on the first floor. The project received planning approval in 2023 and is expected to complete in mid-2025.
