Listed Dorset Cottage

ƒ(𝒏) Architects where appointed to extend and remodel a Springfield Cottage in Wool, Dorset, a Grade II listed house dating back to the early 18th Century. Despite the Georgian proportions, the existing building is a traditional cob and thatch construction with very thick walls, requiring extreme care and attention to forming openings, and necessitating the use of traditional finishes throughout.

The house had obviously experienced generations of alterations across it’s 300+ year lifespan. Typical for buildings of this age, the kitchen and bathroom accommodation were not optimal and internal spaces were inefficiently used. The brief to provide modern and accessible living accommodation and a new master bedroom suite was achieved while the historically important fabric of the building was carefully preserved.

The scheme received planning permission in summer 2021 and commenced on site in 2024.
